Maryland Heights Engine House No. 1
Project Size: 14,400 Square Feet New Firehouse
Contract Amount: $1,685,097
Finish: Brick and Glass
Owner: Maryland Heights Fire Protection District
Architect: The Henderson Group
Built as a brand new firehouse and administrative center, this facility incorporates a wide array of functions. The three engine bays designed to house the emergency response equipment have a carbon monoxide evacuation system for safety and infrared heat for comfort. Living quarters for the firemen include bunk rooms, showers, lockers, restrooms, kitchen and dining facilities, break area with TV, and an exercise room. Included with the administrative office area are a reception area and the 911 dispatch. Various construction methods were utilized as well. Steel column and joist construction was required in the apparatus bays to meet safety codes and clear span requirements. Yet, in the living quarters, it was more economical to utilize wood truss construction for the lower ceiling heights.
